''Bolodon'' is a genus of extinct mammal from the Lower Cretaceous of Europe and North America. It was a member of the extinct order of Multituberculata and belongs to the suborder Plagiaulacida and family Plagiaulacidae. Type species The type species, ''Bolodon crassidens'', is known from fossils of the Lower Cretaceous of England from the Lulworth Formation in Durlston Bay, Dorset. The species ''Bolodon elongatus'' is possibly not referable to this genus: "?new genus to be erected for ''Bolodon elongatus''," (Kielan-Jaworowska & Hurum, 2001, p. 414). Fossils of the species ''Bolodon minor'' (type species of the ''Plioprion'') have been found in the Lower Cretaceous of Durlston Bay, Dorset. ''Plioprion'' (Cope, 1884) is probably synonymous with ''Bolodon''. The species ''Bolodon osborni'' was named by Simpson G.G. in 1928. Sir Richard Owen (20 July 1804 – 18 December 1892) was an English biologist, comparative anatomy, comparative anatomist and paleontology, palaeontologist. Lakota Formation
The Lakota Formation is a sequence of rocks of early Cretaceous (Berriasian to Barremian) age from Western North America. Located in South Dakota, the name of the formation is derived from the Lakota people, Lakota Native Americans in the United States, Native American tribe. There are two units of the Lakota Formation, the Chilson Member (upper Berriasian to Valanginian) and the underlying Fuson Member (upper Valanginian to early Barremian). A Berriasian-Valanginian age for the Chilson Member has been extrapolated by means of ostracods and charophytes. The Fuson Member takes its name from rock exposures in Fuson Canyon, a valley on the eastern side of the Black Hills. Kielan-Jaworowska
Zofia Emilia Kielan-Jaworowska (25 April 1925 – 13 March 2015) was a Polish paleobiologist. In the mid-1960s, she led a series of Polish-Mongolian paleontological expeditions to the Gobi Desert. She was the first woman to serve on the executive committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences. The most notable dinosaur species she discovered include: ''Deinocheirus'' and ''Gallimimus'' while ''Kielanodon'' and ''Zofiabaatar'' were named in her honour. In her obituary in ''Nature'', Richard L. Cifelli wrote that "Much of what we know about the origin and early evolution of mammals stems, directly or indirectly, from er work. Lulworth Formation
The Lulworth Formation is a geologic formation in England. It dates from the late Tithonian to the mid Berriasian. It is a subunit of the Purbeck Group. In Dorset, it consists of three members, which are in ascending order, the Mupe Member, the Ridgway Member, and the Warbarrow Tout Member. The Mupe Member is typically 11 to 16 m thick and largely consists of marls and micrites with interbeds of calcareous mudstone. The Ridgeway Member is about 3 to 7 m thick and consists of in its western portion carbonaceous muds, marls and micrites, in the east the muds are replaced by micritic limestone. The Warbarrow Tout Member is 17 to 39 m thick and consists of limestone at the base and micrite and mudstone for the rest of the sequence, this member is the primary source of the vertebrate fossils within the formation. Plagiaulacida
Plagiaulacida is a group of extinct Multituberculata, multituberculate mammals. Multituberculates were among the most common mammals of the Mesozoic, "the age of the dinosaurs". Plagiaulacids are a paraphyletic grouping, containing all multituberculates that lie outside of the advanced group Cimolodonta. They ranged from the Middle Jurassic Period (geology), Period to the early Late Cretaceous of the northern hemisphere. During the Cenomanian, they were replaced by the more advanced cimolodontans.
